Our preschool tamariki have been busy creating something very special! 🐞🌿

Using bits and pieces they gathered during Adventure Team, the tamariki worked together to build a bug hotel. There has been a huge interest lately in all things creepy crawly, and this was a great opportunity to extend that curiosity while also learning about how bugs have special places they like to live.

Together we talked about how insects are happiest in their natural habitats, and how we can care for them by creating safe spaces rather than keeping them in containers. The tamariki loved gathering materials and carefully adding them to the hotel, thinking about which bugs might like to visit!

A big thank you to our wonderful ESW Claire for donating the crate that helped us create our awesome bug hotel. We can’t wait to see who moves in! 🐜🪲🕷️

🎈 Balloon Fun in the Toddler Room 🎈

Today we had so much fun exploring balloons! This activity was originally set up for our younger pēpi who are building confidence with their balance and beginning to take those first steps.

The balloons created a wonderful opportunity to practise balance and develop hand–eye coordination as tamariki reached, chased, and batted them around the room.

To make the experience even more exciting, we added rice inside some balloons to create fun sounds, and large marbles in others to act as little weights – making them wiggle and wobble as they moved!

It didn’t take long before everyone noticed the fun and joined in. A simple activity that sparked lots of laughter, movement, and curiosity. 💛

    Gloop with a twist! 💫

Today we added colourful pom poms and bendy pipe cleaners to our gloop, instantly sparking curiosity and excitement. The tamariki were challenged to use tweezers to carefully rescue the objects from the sticky slime — what a fun way to strengthen those fine motor muscles!

Today we journeyed out to Waipuna Park for our bush walk. 🐝🌿

There was a sense of peace and strengthening of wairua as we slowed down and started noticing things around us.

Most Adventure Team members have walked this path many times but it never fails to offer different things to explore and new learning opportunities!

Today we were foraging for natural bits and pieces so we can make a Bug Hotel on Friday. We had a kōrero about Tane Mahuta and his children which led to the tamariki sharing their knowledge about the Ngā Atua. 🐞🐛🐜

We practised how to keep our bodies and voices calm to stay safe around dogs walking through the park.

Kaiako Sara and Todd are so immensely proud of the awesome learning we see happening on these adventures and growing the capabilities of the Adventure Team.

Ka pai tō mahi tamariki mā. 💛
