At Kidz Kindy Tauranga we provide an exciting, well balanced educational programme for children.
Our groups range from:
- Nursery – Kahurangi 0-18 months
- Toddlers – Paua 18 months – 3 years
- Pre school – Pukekeo 3-5/6 years
We understand that each child develops at their own pace, therefore, our teachers plan the work carefully to incorporate all the different levels and abilities into the programme.

Activities include:
- Focus activity – based on children’s interests, includes cutting skills, writing skills, stories, completing an activity
- Art activities – painting, screen-printing, collage, finger painting, messy play, cutting, sticking, glass painting
- Manipulative activities – playdough, clay
- Individual, large/small group activities
- Baking
- Mat times – stories, finger rhymes., counting, numbers, movement, music, instruments, listening skills
- Fine motor skill activities – constructing, sorting, forming symbols, art creative activities, writing etc.
- Gross motor skill activities – climbing, pedaling trikes, ball skills etc
- Imaginative play
- Water play, sand pit
- Early literacy skills – nursery rhymes, singing, retelling stories, identifying and writing their name, forming symbols
- Early mathematical skills – nursery rhymes, counting in sequence, counting at mat time, shapes and colours, understanding mathematical concepts
- Reading and listening to stories and enjoying stories

Reading books has been one of our favourite activities recently in the Pāua room. 🧡
For toddlers, this isn’t always about reading the words on the page. Instead, it’s about talking together and sparking conversations about what we can see. We notice pictures, recognise familiar symbols, draw on our working theories, and explore new words and sounds. Through these shared moments, tamariki are building early literacy skills in meaningful and joyful ways. 📚
One important focus we have been teaching is treating our books with respect, learning to care for them so everyone can enjoy them.
Our e hoa enjoyed a creative morning outside using chalk, exploring colours and shapes. They also took pride in helping to clean it away afterwards, learning that caring for our environment can be fun too 🌈
Most of our toddler tamariki have returned this week after the Christmas holidays, and it’s been so lovely to have everyone back together ☀️💛
With the sun shining, we’ve been finding fun ways to cool down. Dinosaur Land in the sandpit was a big hit this morning! The children enjoyed tipping and pouring, stomping and splashing, and using their imaginations as they explored and played together 🦕🦖💦
So much learning, laughter, and reconnection happening as we settle back into our routines
Over the holiday period, our preschool and toddler rooms have joined spaces, creating a wonderful opportunity to build new connections and friendships.
Together, the children decided on dinosaur playdough for a fun rainy-day activity. It was so special to watch different age groups collaborate, share ideas, and learn from one another. 🦖🦕
