Kidz Kindy @75 Weekly Newsletter 01/09/17
This week we carried on our topic of belonging. We have carried on caring for our environment, such as cleaning, fixing and gardening.
In the art area, the children practiced their brush skills with the paints and glue. We did cotton bud paintings, tissue flowers, rainbow twirlers and we decorated plant pots. The skills they extended were hand eye co-ordination, concentration, fine motor skills and gluing skills.
At hui time we sung our garden songs; flowers in my garden, beehive song, wind the bobbin up and I had a little turtle. The children watched a video about the process of a seed growing into a flower. We had lots of spontaneous hui’s with the ukulele and reading books in the reading corner.
Outside the children and teachers carried on working in the garden. We planted strawberries and kept watering the plants. The children potted sunflower seeds to be planted into the gardens in October. The children practiced their hammering skills at the carpentry table. On the rainy day we did art activities with the crayons. We also had puzzles out on the deck as well.
Inside the children had cornflour playdough that was bright pink. They had flowers, feathers and shells to explore with the playdough. There was a matching game, mahinga kai and kai moana game. They had a pretend garden to plant vegetables in. The children worked on their fine motor, problem solving and exploration skills. There was a shop for the children to play in and the family corner was moved into the other room
The babies have been enjoying their heuristic play in the baby room. They have been practicing their climbing skills on and off the mattress couch. They are moving around a lot and becoming more and more confident in their own abilities.
Our focus for next week is Belonging with more gardening and starting to brighten up the area as spring starts.
